HypnoBirthing Program FAQ

How many classes are there in the HypnoBirthing program?
There are five classes, each lasting 2 1/2 hours each.

How much is the class program?
$500.00

Do you offer payment plans?

If you need to set up a payment plan, Kathryn is happy to work out a payment schedule to fit your needs.

What if I'm not able to be hypnotized?

Have you ever daydreamed?  Or focused your attention on something and then realized that time had just flown by?

Hypnosis is EASY!  All you have to do is believe and trust that it will work, and it will.  If you can breathe and follow simple instructions, you will be able to do HypnoBirthing.

Remember YOU are in control!!!

Where are classes located?

Group classes are held at my Greenwich Village office.

26 W. 9th Street, Suite 6C

Who is Marie Mongan?

Marie Mongan, M.Ed., M.Hy., of Chichester, NH is an award-winning hypnotherapist who brings to her classroom over thirty year's experience in education and counseling on the collegiate level and in the private sector.

She is a former college dean who, early in her career, was named one of five outstanding educational leaders in New Hampshire and awarded a Ford Foundation Fellowship to Harvard University.

Marie (best known as "Mickey") is licensed by the State of New Hampshire as a counselor and is certified as a hypnotherapist, hypnoanesthesiologist, and instructor of hypnotherapy. She holds several awards for distinguished service and achievement in the field and is the 1995 recipient of the NGH President's Award. In 2000 she was presented with the coveted NGH Charles Tebbetts Award for her contribution in "shedding the light" and advancing the awareness of hypnosis. In 2005 she was presented with the most important award of the NGH, the NGH Rexford L. North Award

Mickey is the mother of four children, all born in the late 50s and early 60s. She experienced all four labors using the techniques of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, one of the pioneers in the field of natural childbirth, upon whose work Mickey has based
HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method. Two of her birthings were entirely free of anesthesia at a time when it was unheard of. Her book, HypnoBirthing®--A Celebration of Life, was written in 1989; her new book, HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is now available.

Where can I find more information on HypnoBirthing?

At what time during my pregnancy should I take this class?

ANYTIME IS PERFECT!!!!!

You can begin HypnoBirthing at anytime in your pregnancy.  Just keep in mind that this program requires you to practice.  The earlier you begin, the more time you will have to practice the techniques.

Can my birthing companion accompany me to the classes?

YES, absolutely!  Your birthing companion, whether it is your husband, fiance, friend, family member, Doula, etc., is welcome to attend classes with you.  The price for the program is per couple.  You may also attend by yourself if you wish if you choose not to have a birthing companion.

Why is the program 5 classes? I have seen other hypnobirthing classes that are only for one day.

Yes, there are other "hypnobirthing" classes out there that are either by mail or set up as a one day class.  These are not the same as the Marie Mongan method of HypnoBirthing that I teach.  Marie (or Mickey as we know her) designed this comprehensive childbirth education program to consist of 5 classes lasting 2 1/2 hours each.  If you have looked at the syllabus, we cover an extensive amount of information that to do it in one day, would be difficult for you to fully understand and utilize these techniques for your upcoming birth.

By offering private & group classes, I try to make the 5 class program as easy for you to schedule as possible so that you can fit it into your busy life.  In some cases, I will make exceptions if you are close to your due date and need to do the class in less time, but I try to stick to Mickey's method of 5 classes as much as possible.

When should I register for class?

I recommend registering for a class as soon as you find a class schedule that fits your needs.  Classes fill up quickly, and if you postpone, you may not be able to get into the class you want.  I only allow 3 couples per class.

Will I still be in control?
Of course!  You are not unconscious or asleep when you are in the hypnotic state.  You are fully aware of your surroundings and of your body and baby.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so you are ALWAYS in control of the situation.  Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do while in hypnosis.

I'm having a Cesarean Section, can HypnoBirthing still help?

Yes! HypnoBirthing® isn’t just about natural, drug-free, vaginal births; it can be used for any type of birth experience! It is wonderful at helping prepare you for the birth itself, but the benefits do not end there. HypnoBirthing® can help you experience a happier, more relaxed pregnancy, will help with bonding with the baby, with lactation (should you chose to breastfeed) and with life after the birth.

I’ve Seen Hypnosis for Birth CDs and Books for Sale on the Internet, Why Can’t I Just Use These?

HypnoBirthing® is a registered trademark, used only for the official HypnoBirthing® – Mongan Method. Anything else is NOT HypnoBirthing®

HypnoBirthing® concentrates on helping to eradicate what is known as the “Fear –Tension – Pain Cycle” through a series of techniques including interactive class discussions, practical demonstrations, special breathing techniques, massage techniques, watching at least 7 different positive birth stories in class and actively involving your birthing partner. At no point do we teach you any methods of pain control, like many other hypnosis for childbirth programs do.

A CD or a book could help you to relax and may be of small benefit, but in order to experience the full benefits of HypnoBirthing® it is strongly recommended that you attend classes with an officially recognised HypnoBirthing® instructor. We do give you 2 CDs and a book as PART of the program but these are only a small part – as you can imagine we cover a whole lot more than just listening to a CD and it is for this reason that HypnoBirthing is the longest established and most widely respected hypnosis for birth program in the world.

A list of official practitioners can be obtained from here:
http://www.hypnobirthing.com

If a practitioner is not on this list, then they are NOT official HypnoBirthing® practitioners!

Demand the original... Expect the best"

Will my insurance cover the classes?

Many insurance companies do cover childbirth education classes.  I will provide you with a receipt and a form to submit to your company to see if you can be reimbursed.
